Location Recce

Location Recce
This group task was made by Joe (my team member).
A recce means, a trip to a place to see what it is like and if it is suitable. As we had a plan for our film we had to decide as a group suitable locations. The location was a boxing gym however it couldn't be too extravagant. Our ideal gym would be quite run down and gritty looking, which connotes that the main character has a rough past that is why he trains and is used to these conditions. We only managed to find a few possible locations that we could use, Rose Hill Boxing Gym, Dynamo Boxing Gym and Fight Knight Boxing Gym. The most accessible gym for us to use was Rose Hill, which we did use in the end as the rooms and ring, was perfect for what we wanted to shoot.

This is a photo of the corridor which is used as the shot of a silhouette of Charlie walking out to the ring. This is an important shot as it is very long shot it builds up suspense as he walks out to the ring. This suspense draws the audience in, as they will be left thinking and wondering about the character and why this is being built up to being a big fight. The rest of these photos are of the gym before and during shooting.

The owners of the gym were extremely kind and let us arrange a day that we could have full access to the gym, free of charge. Some difficulties with using the Rose Hill gym is the lighting from the windows, as they didn't have blinds we had to find other ways to block of the outer light. As it is down a small road it is not very obvious to the public that there is a gym and car park down their so, members of the public did not affect us at all. One downside to using the Rose Hill gym was that the ring was very low quality. For example the floor of the ring was not like an expected because it was just foam pads linked and tapped together, but we managed to deal with it. There was not any health and safety issues, but the shower and changing room area could have been cleaner and just maintained better. It was just quite dirty and dusty.
